Don't Fall Victim to a Dishonest Contractor

If a storm rolls through, call Centauri or your local insurance agent first. We can help you locate a preferred, trustworthy vendor in your area so you don’t fall victim to AOB insurance fraud.
WHAT IS ASSIGNMENT OF BENEFITS?
An Assignment of Benefits (AOB) is a contract between you and a third party such as a roofer, plumber, contractor or a water mitigation company. The contract gives them the right to deal directly with your insurance company and receive the payment for your claim.
A third party may offer you an AOB when requesting emergency repairs or when they are traveling door-to-door soliciting new business.
WHEN YOU SIGN AN AOB
Your rights and benefits may be transferred to the contractor, giving them the right to submit your claim or even file a lawsuit without your knowledge. They may also be able to collect any payments directly from your insurance company. You have limited recourse if your contractor misrepresents your insurance claim. You cannot withhold payment or change contractors if you are unhappy with their work leaving you unable to comparison shop for better quality or price. If your insurance company pays less than the contractor demands, you could end up with unfinished work or an out-of-pocket bill for the difference.
